LESSONS FROM THE FATHER OF FAITH
FATHER’S DAY – 2026
Vernon Zook June 21, 2026

For Abraham is the father of all who believe. That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. Romans 4:16-17 (NLT)
WHAT DOES A GOD-PURSUING FATHER LOOK LIKE?
1. HE EMBRACES HIS ROLE AS THE OF THE FAMILY.
But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.  1 Corinthians 11:3 (NLT)
GOD’S DESIGN FOR SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY:
How Does Christ Lead the Church?
Sacrificially
Humbly
Lovingly
Protectively
Servantly
• GOD – CHRIST – HUSBAND/FATHER –
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. Ephesians 5:21-23 (NLT)
• GOD – CHRIST – HUSBAND/FATHER – MOTHER/WIFE –
Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth… for this pleases the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-3 (NLT)
2. HE PUTS GOD EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE FAMILY.
Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. Colossians 1:18 (NLT)
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
3. HE LEADS HIS FAMILY BY .
GOD TOLD ABRAHAM:
• To leave his homeland
It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. Hebrews 11:8 (NLT)
• Willing to offer Isaac as a sacrifice
Sometime later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” …
…At that moment the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!” “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” Genesis 22:1-2, 11-12 (NLT)
“I have singled him (Abraham) out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.” Genesis 18:19 (NLT)
