Perseverance

June 18, 2023   /   James Rousseau, Youth Pastor   /   All Souls Anglican Church

Romans 5:1–4 (NIV84)  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

  • Paul is 100% convinced in God’s promises
  • Glory in our sufferings
  • Our Hope is confirmed through Jesus

John 16:33 (NIV84) “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

  • Jesus is our peace in all circumstances

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV84)

      So do not fear, for I am with you;

       do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

      I will strengthen you and help you;

       I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  • God tells us not to fear
  • He states who he is
  • He lets us know that he will be our strength

Romans 8:28 (NIV84)  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

  • God doesn’t waste any opportunities in our lives
  • For those who love Him (those who obey His teachings)
  • Trust that the Lord has your best interest at hand

James 1:2–4 (NIV84)  Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

  • Joy vs Happiness (Our circumstances)
  • Testing produces perseverance (Hurdles)
  • Perseverance leads to completion
  • Building us for eternity (Van Gogh)

Romans 5:5–8 (NIV84)  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • Our Hope is in Christ

Now what? Is there any reprieve?

Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV84)  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

  • Do you need a reprieve?
  • Are you willing to surrender ?
  • Will you take on the Yoke of the Jesus ?
  • Come to Me
  • God is enough

Jesus said “Come to Me”
