Our Great Salvation

1 Peter 1:3-12

1 Peter 1:3 NASB95 and RVR60

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 Peter 1:4 NASB95 and RVR60

to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

1 Peter 1:5 NASB95 and RVR60

who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

1 Peter 1:6 NASB95 and RVR60

In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

1 Peter 1:7 NASB95 and RVR60

so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

1 Peter 1:8 NASB95 and RVR60

and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

a quien amáis sin haberle visto, en quien creyendo, aunque ahora no lo veáis, os alegráis con gozo inefable y glorioso;

1 Peter 1:9 NASB95 and RVR60

obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:10 NASB95 and RVR60

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,

1 Peter 1:11 NASB95 and RVR60

seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

1 Peter 1:12 NASB95 and RVR60

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.

• Restate proposition:  Because God’s salvation is great, we must value and hold on to it.

• The text gives us three reasons why we should hold on to our salvation.

I. God’s salvation Ensures our reception of future inheritance (3-5)

II. God’s salvation Enables our endurance of present trials (6-9)

III. God’s salvation Enlightens our understanding of past events (10-12)

Call to Action

People often begin to value things only after they lose them. Imagine what it would be like to not have this great salvation and thank God for what he has given you.

1. Value your salvation

2. Hold on to your salvation

3. Share your salvation
