Bewitched | Message 3: The Work of the Cross | Pastor Chad Dingess | 8/27/2023
August 27, 2023 / Bethesda ChurchGalatians 3:1
You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.
1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1: Deliverance from this present age.
Galatians 1:3-4
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.
John 15:19
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Hebrews 6:4-5
It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age.
2: Deliverance from the Law.
Galatians 2:19
“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.”
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace.
Romans 7:5-6
For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Romans 8:8
Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:1, 3
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh.
Romans 13:8-10
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 8:14-15
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage (slavery) again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
3: Deliverance from Self
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
4: Deliverance from the Flesh
Galatians 5:24
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Galatians 5:17
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
5: Deliverance from the World.
Galatians 6:14
But God forbid that I should glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom (or by which) the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Hebrews 10:35-39 (NIV)
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.” 38 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
