The Book of Philippians – Choose Joy | Message 1: Where’s the Joy? | Chad Dingess

July 14, 2024   /   Bethesda Church

  • Happiness is external. Joy is internal.

2 Corinthians 4: 16-17
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

  • Happiness is situational. Joy is spiritual.

Philippians 4:11
…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

  • Happiness happens by chance. Joy happens by choice.

1. I can choose joy despite difficult people.

Philippians 1: 3-4
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy…

2. I can choose joy despite bad circumstances.

Philippians 1: 6 (NLT)
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

3. I can choose joy despite dashed dreams.

Philippians 1: 12
Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.

Philippians 1: 18
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice…
