THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 

ARTICLE X — STATEMENT OF FAITH
“We believe and accept the following statements as essentials for the unity and practice of the members of this church:”

4. THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 
(John 3:5; 14:16-17; 16:7-13; Romans 8:14; 1 Corinthians 6:11, 19; 12:13; Galatians 5:16-17; Ephesians 4:30; 5:18-21)
“We believe the Holy Spirit is God, convicting the world, causing spiritual birth, baptizing all believers into one body in Christ, indwelling, sealing, sanctifying, guiding, and teaching every believer, as well as filling and controlling those who walk in obedience to God and His Word.”

#1: The Holy Spirit had a part in creating you! 

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.” Genesis 1:26 NLT

#2: The Holy Spirit dwells inside of you! 

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?  1 Corinthians 3:16 ERV

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV84

#3: The Holy Spirit is a helper who teaches and reminds you! 

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”  John 14:26 NLT

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’”  John 16:13-15 NLT

#4: The Holy Spirit gave you your spiritual gift(s)! 

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing… 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.  1 Corinthians 12:4-9 & 11 NLT

#5: The Holy Spirit helps you and prays for you when you are weak! 

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.  And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.  Romans 8:26-27 NLT

#6: The Holy Spirit empowers you and guides you! 

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 NLT

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead…  Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT
