BLESSED #4 – HUNGER & THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS

FEB 6/7, 2021

MATTHEW 5:1-6  (ESV)

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

Jesus teaches six practical WAYS to desire righteousness:

WAY #1 — OBEDIENCE

MATTHEW 3:15  (ESV)

“Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.”

WAY #2 — LOYALTY

MATTHEW 5:10  (ESV)

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

WAY #3 — SURRENDER

MATTHEW 5:20  (ESV)

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

WAY #4 — HUMILITY

MATTHEW 6:1  (ESV)

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.”

WAY #5 — PRIORITY

MATTHEW 6:33  (ESV)

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

WAY #6 — TRUST

MATTHEW 21:32  (ESV)

For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY STEP 6
We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

JAMES 4:10  (ESV)

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY STEP 7
We humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings.

1 JOHN 1:9  (ESV)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE 5
Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

MATTHEW 5:6  (ESV)

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
