BLESSED #6 – PURE IN HEART
FEB 20/21, 2021
MATTHEW 5:1-8 (ESV)
Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Purity in heart leads you to see God working in three WAYS:
Way #1: REGENERATION (Past)
Salvation is grace transforming us from death to life.
JOHN 5:24 (ESV)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
Way #2: RENEWAL (Present)
Sanctification is grace transforming us from worldly to God’s will.
ROMANS 12:1-5 (ESV)
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
What’s God’s Will?
- ACKNOWLEDGE God is God. Ephesians 4:4-6
- REPRESENT the image of God. Ephesians 1:13-14
- SPEAK graciously to build others up. Ephesians 4:29
- GATHER to worship with other believers. Ephesians 5:19-21
- SUBMIT to various authorities. Ephesians 6:1-9
- FORGIVE those who have wronged you. Ephesians 4:26-27
- HONOR the marriage bed. Ephesians 5:3
- RESPECT the property of others. Ephesians 4:28
- TELL the truth. Ephesians 4:25
- WALK with a heavenly inheritance. Ephesians 5:5
Way #3: REDEMPTION (Promise)
Glorification is grace transforming us from hoping to heaven.
1 THESSALONIANS 4:15-18 (ESV)
For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Celebrate Recovery Step 4—
We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
LAMENTATIONS 3:40 (ESV)
Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!
Celebrate Recovery Step 5—
We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
JAMES 5:16 (ESV)
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
Celebrate Recovery Biblical Principle 4—
Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.
MATTHEW 5:8 (ESV)
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
