BLESSED #7 – PEACEMAKERS

FEB 27/28, 2021

MATTHEW 5:3-9 (NIV84)

“Blessed (or happy) are the poor in spirit…”
“Blessed (or happy) are those who mourn…
“Blessed (or happy) are the meek…”
“Blessed (or happy) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…”
“Blessed are the merciful…”
“Blessed are the pure in heart…”
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”

“Peacemaking is not appeasement, and it’s not avoidance. It’s actively seeking to resolve a conflict.”

#1: UNRESOLVED CONFLICT MESSES UP YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

1 JOHN 4:19-21 (NLT)

We love each other because he loved us first.   20 If  someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21 And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.

#2: UNRESOLVED CONFLICT MESSES UP YOUR PRAYERS

1 PETER 3:7 (NLT)

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.

#3: UNRESOLVED CONFLICT MESSES UP YOUR HAPPINESS

JOB 18:4 (NLT)

You may tear out your hair in anger, but will that destroy the earth? Will it make the rocks tremble?

A peacemaker…knows and has a relationship with the God of peace!

ROMANS 5:1-2 (NLT)

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

A peacemaker…introduces others to the God of peace!

2 CORINTHIANS 5:18-20 (NLT)

And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.  For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

A peacemaker…helps bring peace between others who are in conflict!

2 CORINTHIANS 13:11 (NLT)

Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.

A peacemaker…works hard at keeping peace in their own relationships!

ROMANS 12:18 (NIV)

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

  1. Pray for the person or persons who are in conflict!
  2. Plan a time to meet!
  3. Care about the other person’s feelings!
  4. Attack the issue, not the person!
  5. Reconciliation, not resolution, is the goal!
