GROWING IN GRATITUDE

BVG MISSION:
Love God. Love People. Make Disciples.

“Go therefore and  make disciples of  all nations”
Matthew 28:19a ESV

making disciples

1  Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.  2  And  walk in love,  as Christ loved us and  gave himself up for us, a  fragrant  offering and sacrifice to God. 3  But  sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness  must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.  4 Let there be  no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking,  which are out of place, but instead  let there be thanksgiving. Ephesians 5:1-4 ESV

6  Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,  7  rooted and  built up in him and  established in the faith, just  as you were taught, abounding  in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7 ESV

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. John 1:16 ESV

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ  Philippians 3:8 ESV

4 “You will not surely die.  5  For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4b-5 ESV

3. Give thanks EVEN IN

Growing in appreciation of God’s PRESENCE

16  Rejoice always,  17  pray without ceasing,  18  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,     and his  courts with praise!
Give thanks to him;  bless his name! Psalm 100:4 ESV

1 The  Lord  is my  shepherd; I shall not  want.
2      He makes me lie down in green  pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. 3      He  restores my soul.
He  leads me in  paths of righteousness     for his  name’s sake.
4  Even though I  walk through the valley of  the shadow of death,
    I will  fear no evil, for  you are with me;
your  rod and your staff,     they comfort me.
5  You  prepare a table before me     in  the presence of my enemies; Psalm 23:1-5a ESV

4. Give thanks EVEN FOR

Growing in appreciation of God’s PURPOSE

12  I want you to know, brothers,  that what has happened to me has really  served to advance the gospel,  13  so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard  and  to all the rest that  my imprisonment is for Christ.  14  And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold  to speak the word  without fear. Philippians 4:12-14 ESV

2  Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials  of various kinds,  3  for you know that  the testing of your faith  produces steadfastness. James 1:2-3 ESV

2 …and  we rejoice  in hope of the glory of God.  3  Not only that, but we  rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering  produces endurance, 4  and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, Romans 5:2b-4 ESV

“all things were created through him and for him”  Colossians 1:6 ESV

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time  are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:18 ESV

And he took a cup, and  when he had given thanks he said,  “Take this, and divide it among yourselves.” Luke 22:17 ESV

27  “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father,  save me from  this hour’? But  for this purpose I have come to  this hour.  28  Father, glorify your name.” John 12:27-28a ESV

28  And we know that for those who love God all things work together  for good,  for  those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 ESV
