HOPE—#2
MATTHEW 1:18-25 TITUS 2:11-14 REVELATION 21:1-5
Grieve as others do who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 ESV
There is LOSS in the story of Christmas.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:18-23 ESV
Even in the midst of our loss, real HOPE is available.
When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. Matthew 1:24-25 ESV
Jesus provides us with real hope in two WAYS.
Our blessed hope…our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Titus 2:13 ESV
Way #1: Hope NOW
Jesus has called you to live with hope now.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. Titus 2:11-12 ESV
Way #2: Hope FOREVER
Jesus has prepared an inheritance for you to live with hope forever.
Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. Titus 2:13-14 ESV
The future is FULL OF HOPE.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:1-5 ESV
Are you ready to live FULL OF HOPE?
Christ Jesus our hope. 1 Timothy 1:1 ESV
Hope has a name and that name is JESUS.
Christ Jesus [my] hope. 1 Timothy 1:1 ESV
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Philippians 3:8 ESV
