MARK 1:1-15
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  Mark 1:1 ESV

God the Father speaks about John the Baptist

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, 3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”  Mark 1:2-3 ESV

Introduction to the person and work of John the Baptist

John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. Mark 1:4-6 ESV

Summarized message of John the Baptist

And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Mark 1:7-8 ESV

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. Mark 1:9-10 ESV

God the Father speaks about Jesus the Christ

And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Mark 1:11 ESV

Introduction to the person and work of Jesus the Christ

The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.  Mark 1:12-13 ESV

Summarized message of Jesus the Christ

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15 ESV

Seeing the Gospel of Mark through the opening WORDS of Jesus.

Word #1: The TIME is fulfilled.

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 ESV

Word #2: The KINGDOM OF GOD is at hand.

And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” Mark 14:23-25 ESV

Word #3: REPENT AND BELIEVE in the gospel.

And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:15-17 ESV

Christ suffered for you to enter the Kingdom of God, repent of your sins, believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, live daily by the Holy Spirit.
