  • He is a God of grace

  • He is a God who heals
  • He is a God who cares
  • He is all-knowing

  • He is a God of language

The 1st Bible Study
(God & Adam)

The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 16 But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— 17 except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”  Genesis 2:15-17 NLT

The 2nd Bible Study
(Adam & Eve)

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” 2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat…”  Genesis 3:1-3 NLT

The Fall
(Adam doesn’t obey God’s Word)

The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.  Genesis 3:6-7 NLT

The Question
(God asks a question)

When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees. 9 Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”  Genesis 3:8-9 NLT

The Cure
(God sacrifices an animal)

And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.  Genesis 3:21 NLT

The only way we know any of this is because our God
is a God of language. (He gave us His Word.)

Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.  Acts 17:11 NIV1984

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations.  Psalm 119:105-106 NLT

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.  Hebrews 4:12 NLT

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”  Matthew 4:4 NIV1984

Practical Application

  • READ the Words of God
  • STUDY the Words of God
  • MEDITATE on the Words of God
  • MEMORIZE THE Words of God
  • But most importantly – DO what the Words of God tell you to do!

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.  James 1:22-25 NIV1984
