Women of the Bible – MARY

Luke 1:26-55 NIV

Why God Chose Mary

Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is doing the thing that scares you in spite of your fear.

2 CHRONICLES 16:9 NIV
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him…

#1—Mary was willing to sell out (submit) to God’s will for her life!

LUKE 1:38 NLT
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.”

ROMANS 12:2 NIV84
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

#1—God says His will is good!

#2—God says His will is pleasing!

#3—God says His will is perfect!

God uses people who want to be used!

#2—Mary was willing to pay a high price to follow God’s will for her life!

#1—It cost Mary her reputation!

#2—It cost Mary her comfort!

LUKE 14:25-33 NIV84
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. 27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? 29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’

“Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?  32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”

#3—Mary was willing to trust God as she followed His will for her life!!

LUKE 1:35 NLT
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

LUKE 1:38 NLT
“I am the Lord’s servant…May it be to me as you have said.”
