Relational Discipleship
April 23, 2023 / Pastor Scott Matthews / Bolton Community ChurchGood morning and welcome to Bolton Community Church. I am Pastor Scott Matthews and I hope that you have a great morning of worship with us today. If you have any questions at any time please feel free to ask me, my wife, or anyone else about what we do here at BCC!
This morning, we will look at the way how Jesus made disciples and learn three key components of discipleship.
Before we begin here are 6 things that Discipleship is not:
#. 1: Discipleship is something I can do by myself—just Jesus and me.
#. 2: Discipling others is too complicated—let the professionals do it.
#. 3: Discipleship is a program of the church.
#. 4: Making disciples is fine if you find it fulfilling..
#. 5: Seriously, I’m so busy, I don’t see any way to add more into my life.
#. 6: Discipleship can be accomplished through Christian fellowship.
This morning, we will look at the way how Jesus made disciples and learn three key components of discipleship.
Bible Verse(s) used:
Matthew 4:18-20
What are your thoughts on what you just heard?
When we disciple someone, we are not taking on a project, we are investing in a person. Therefore, building relationship should be the key component of our discipleship.
Bible Verses used:
Matthew 28:20
Romans 12:2
Discipleship is more than materials and methods. Only the word of God has the power to transform lives! Therefore, God’s word must be the foundation of our discipleship!
If you are wondering how to study the Bible, S.O.A.P. is one of the methods you can use. S.O.A.P. is an acronym for:
S –
O –
A –
P –
This way you will be able to dig deeper into God’s word, and help each other grow.
What are your thoughts on what you just heard?
Jesus took His disciples with Him during His ministry.
Bible verse(s) used:
Matthew 4:19
Matthew 28:19-20
What are your thoughts on what you just heard?
RECAP: The three key components of discipleship are: Relationship, God’s Word, and Ministry
How can you use what you heard this week to challenge yourself to life a life for Jesus? What does that look like for you?
I want to thank you for coming today and please interact with others to develop those connections that will help you grow deeper in your faith.
