November 12, 2023   /   Canaan Baptist Church – Oakville

The Big Thought: God reveals His extravagant grace to us in how He for us, us, and us.

1. In His grace, God for us.

Deuteronomy 1:29-30 (ESV) – Then I said to you, “Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The LORD your God who goes before you will Himself fight for you, just as He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

2. In His grace, God us.

Genesis 1:27 (ESV) – So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 5:1-3 (ESV) – This is the book of genealogy of the generations of Adam. When God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. Male and female He created them, and He blessed them and named them Man when they were created. When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

Romans 8:28-29 (ESV) – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Hebrews 1:3 (ESV) – [Jesus] is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

a. Not because we it, but because He it.

Isaiah 62:4-5 (ESV) – You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and you land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

Isaiah 10:24-27 (ESV) – Therefore thus says the LORD GOD of hosts: “O My people, who dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrians when they strike with the word and lift up their staff against you as the Egyptians did. For in a very little while My fury will come to an end, and My anger will be directed to their destruction. And the LORD of hosts will wield against them a whip, as when He struck Midian at the rock of Oreb. And His staff will be over the sea, and He will lift it as He did in Egypt. And in that day His burden will depart from your shoulder, and His yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.”

Romans 5:8 (ESV) – But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:9-10 (ESV) – In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

b. Not because of our , but because of the of His .

Ezekiel 36:22 (ESV) – “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the LORD GOD: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act,, but for the sake of My holy name., which you have profaned among the nations to which you came.”

3. In His grace, God us.

a. God’s purpose for His people has always been for them to His glory to the whole world.

Ezekiel 36:23 (ESV) – And I will vindicate the holiness of My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when through you I vindicate My holiness before their eyes.

b. God’s purpose for you is to be most .

John 15:1-5 (ESV) – “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch of mine that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
