WHY THIS MATTERS
WHAT IS JUDGING
- What is judgment?
- What is judgment not?
- What is the goal of judgment?
LISTEN TO JESUS’ WARNING
Matthew 7:1–3 (ESV) – “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
LEARN FROM JESUS’ WISDOM
Matthew 7:3-5 (ESV) – Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Romans 12:9–10 (ESV) – Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Ephesians 4:15 (ESV) – … speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
FOLLOW JESUS’ WAY FORWARD
Matthew 7:5–6 (ESV) – You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.
Matthew 18:16 (ESV) – But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
- And if that still doesn’t work…
Matthew 18:17 (ESV) – If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
