The Christian faith is no faith at all if it’s not practiced

1 Thessalonians 5:11-13

Leaders are people who come from the congregation, who work among the congregation, who stand over the congregation, challenging believers to grow in Christ.

You don’t have to agree with leaders on everything, you do have to respect them for the position that God has placed them in.

We need to be careful that our attitude to authority is shaped by the gospel, not our culture.

1 Thessalonians 5:14

“Idle” – “to break the ranks,” “to get out of line”

“Timid” – “small-souled” – these folks are easily discouraged

“Weak” – They are exhausted, burnt out, worn out, and completely wrung out; physically and spiritually drained, feel like they cannot go on.

“Be patient with everyone” – long-tempered, tough, and durable under pressure

1 Thessalonians 5:15-18

vv. 12-15 require us to relate to other people; vv. 16-18 speak of our relationship with God

Rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks in all circumstances are all God’s will for us.

1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

We quench the Spirit in our own life, when we say “no” to God.

We quench the Spirit in someone else’s life by becoming critical of others who don’t see things the same way we do.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

Sanctification: It’s everything God does in your life and mine to make sure we turn out right.

“The one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.”
