The Gospels 

  • The Bible is our

Matthew 4:4 – Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread  alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” 

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. 

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) – So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the  word of God.

  1. What is the?Euangelion “

“The Birthday of Augustus has been for the whole world the beginning of  the gospel concerning him.” – the gospel of Caesar 

The Gospel is the proclaimed good news of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and  resurrection, offering salvation and reconciliation with God to all who  believe. 

  1. Why are there Gospels?
  • The 4 gospels are 4 witnesses that provide a picture of Jesus.
  1. Why are there in the accounts of the Gospels?

“If four witnesses should appear before a judge to give an account of a  certain event, and each should tell exactly the same story in the same  words, the judge would probably conclude, not that their testimony was  exceptionally valuable, but that the only event which was certain beyond a  doubt was that they had agreed to tell the same story. But if each man had  told what he had seen, as he had seen it, then the evidence would be  credible. And when we read the four Gospels, is not that exactly what we  find? The four men tell the same story each in his own way.” – Dr. Henry  Van Dyke 

  1. What does each of the Gospels about Jesus?

Philippians 2:12 – Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed— not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to  work out your salvation with fear and trembling…

  • • Purpose – Written to convince the Jews that Jesus Christ was  the long-awaited

Matthew 28:18-20 – Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in  heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make  disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of  the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have  commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the  age.”

  • In Mark, we see Jesus as “

Message – John 20:31 – “But these are written that you may believe that  Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have  life in his name.”

Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,  and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I  am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For  my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
