• The gladius was a short about two feet long that was used in close combat.
• God’s Word, the Bible, protects us only as we know it and it properly.

The Bible is essential to a life of faith, Hebrews 4:11-13.

• The Bible helps us learn from the v. 11.
  • This passage describes Israel’s disobedience in the wilderness.
  • God offers the to learn from the past, v. 7.
• The Bible guides us in the present, v. 12.
  • It is not like any other book in that it is alive and v. 12a.
    • It is perfect truth directly from God, 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
    • The Holy Spirit gives as we read.
  • It speaks to the deepest levels of our being, v. 12b.
    • It exposes our thoughts and attitudes.
      • Guides us to replace sinful thoughts/attitudes with godly thoughts/attitudes.
    • It helps us between our heart and God’s heart, Jeremiah 17:9-10.
• The Bible points us toward God, v. 13.
  • We will stand before God in someday.
    • It is dangerous to put off trusting in Jesus by faith, v. 7.
    • will be seen for who He is, Philippians 2:10-11.
  • It is impossible to be hidden from God’s sight.
    • Knowing He sees our sin should urge us to and live better.
    • Knowing He sees our struggles should encourage us to persevere, Psalm 139:7-10.
  • Either perspective is a reminder that God is always at work us to Himself.
