Avoid Temptation

Scripture reading: Matthew 6:9-13 and 1 Cor. 10:12-13

Our message series is: Following the of Jesus. It’s a of life!

To follow Jesus we must avoid as best we can. It could be defined as “the option of moving off of Jesus’ preferred way of life for our own lives.”

What are some of your strongest temptations?

SOME TEMPTATIONS INCLUDE: Sloth, Steal, Cheat, Lie, Workaholic, Amusement, TV, Internet, Video games, Drugs, Alcohol, Sex, Romance, Relationships, Money, Power, Prestige, Respect, Greed

Many of these aren’t sinful in themselves, but can be a temptation in various situations. For instance: Money isn’t ‘bad,’ but when it consumes our thoughts and desires it can become a sinful idol.

Jesus’ instruction in Matthew 6:9-13    9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into , but deliver us from the one.’

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a out so that you can endure it.

  2. What would it look like to be victorious over those sins as you live Jesus’ way of life for your life?
