Vision: God, Love People, Serve Both

Matthew 22:36 – “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Matthew 22:37 – “ the lord your GOD with all your heart, and with all your SOUL”

Greek “

Storge – family

Filias – friend

Eros – lover

– God(ly), Sacrifice

Greek “HEART” = Will + Emotions

Greek “” = Psuche = Breath + Body

You and a dog have a psuche; A Rock does NOT.

Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul [psuche].

God with your – HOW and WHAT we breathe in matters!

HOW and WHAT we breathe out matters!

BOTH should be expressions of love for God!

[Jesus said in Matthew 12:35-36] “35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give an account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Remember, Jesus was building his teaching on what the Holy Spirit had inspired the Old Testament writers to write such as:

  • Psalm 19:14 — May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
  • Romans 10:9-11.  That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

What we breathe in, we will breathe out!

  • Acts 2:38   Then Peter said to them, “, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  • Romans 8:9   But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
  • Luke 11:13  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who  Him!”

Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said: “My soul [] glorifies the Lord and my spirit [pneuma] rejoices in God my Savior…

Let’s practice this!

  • Psalm 103:1 – “Bless the Lord, O my psuche; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
  • Psalm 104:1 – “Bless the Lord, O my psuche! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty

  1. What kinds of things are you taking into your body these days, that are having an effect on what you do and say?
  2. In what ways can you, or are you, taking into your soul things that help you to love God?
  3. What is there to love about God?

Read Matthew 22:36-40, Acts 2:38, and Psalm 104

  1. What is amazing and wonderful about what God has created around us?
  2. What is amazing and wonderful about how God created you and the ones you love?
  3. Have you confessed, repented of your sin, and received the Holy Spirit? If so, how does the Holy Spirit want you to express love for God by your soul, NOW?

Prayer: “Jesus I love you, and I receive your love and forgiveness and ask you would help me to receive the Holy Spirit and to be guided more powerfully and clearly by the Holy Spirit this week. THANK YOU – I love you and praise you with my heart and soul! AMEN!”
