Summer Road Trip – Sermon Notes Pastor Brad Myers

The Sound of Freedom June 30, 2024

Today: The Sound of Freedom!

Paul’s writes of Opportunity & Responsibility

  • Opportunity: A situation or condition favorable to receive favor.
  • Responsibility: A presented obligation.

Galatians 5:13 (NLT)

1 Peter 2:16 (NLT)

  • Freedom does not mean a license. freedom is not a pretext for evil.

Thought: Sinful disobedience should never be justified by some pseudo-spiritual excuse. The cause of Christ is never advanced by evil masquerading in religious clothes.

Q) Are we free to do whatever we want to do? NO!

Why: Because with freedom comes responsibility.

  • Laws govern our behavior, so we don’t infringe on the freedom of others.
  • Unbridled freedom in any society leads to chaos and instability.
  • We must be careful not to take our freedoms for granted or abuse that privilege.

Spiritually:

  • God granted all of us the freedom to make our own choices on how to live.
  • Free will.
  • To choose whether we believe in Him or follow His commands.

Q) How do we protect the freedom that Christ has won for us?

Galatians 5:16 (NLT)

Q) Where did Apostle Paul come up with all this wisdom?

Thought: The first thing Paul prayed was a prayer that everyone who wants a living relationship with God must pray. Paul’s eight-word prayer changed Him and the world.

Acts 9:6 (NKJV)

Luke 6:46 (NLT)

Thought: The reason many Christians are so powerless is because they have never truly come to that place of surrender, saying, “God, You are Lord of my life now.”

Paul’s given a Divine Purpose.

Acts 9:6 (NKJV)

Thought: God has the right to your life, and a divine purpose for your life. We must realize this divine purpose may go far beyond our ability to understand it.

God is now Paul’s Lord with a divine purpose and that requires active participation.

Acts 9:6 (NKJV)

  • Paul goes from enraged persecutor of the Church to finding himself in the midst of the followers of Jesus Christ. Baptism candidates!!
  • Looking for acceptance and trying to convince the disciples that he was no longer against them.
  • It must have been incredibly uncomfortable for him.

Q) How does God answer Paul

  • Writing Scriptures.????
  • Establish churches????

Thought: We always want the whole package, all the answers up front!

God Answers!

Acts 9:6 (NLT)

Thought: If you want to know what Christian Freedom looks like just take the first step. Just do the first thing.

  • God doesn’t lay it all out before us because He knows we wouldn’t be able to handle it.
  • I’ve seized the opportunity, and my responsibility is just to take a step!
