Paul shares a series of three contrasts, highlighting the stark differences between the Christian’s former life of sin and our new life in Christ. He does this so that we might see why we should stop presenting ourselves (v.19) as slaves to impurity and instead present ourselves as slaves to righteousness.
- Two contrasting masters: sin and God (vv. 20-22a)
- Two contrasting outcomes; death and life (v. 21-22)
- Two contrasting means; wage and gift (v. 23)
