Discovering A Life-Giving Relationship With Jesus | Church In 3D, Part 1
January 7, 2024 / Crosstown Alliance ChurchChurch in 3D, pt 1 – “Discovering a life-giving relationship with Jesus”
To lead people to DISCOVER, develop, and display full devotion to Jesus Christ.
1. What has God done for us?
2. How do we respond to Him?
The World’s Way—if you achieve then you receive.
God’s Way—Jesus achieved now we receive.
What does it look like to center our church around the central point of Scripture?
1. We need to keep the main thing, the main thing.
John 5:39-40
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
We don’t need self-help.
We need Jesus!
“Don’t drink”
“Don’t have sex before you’re married”
“Bring a friend with you next week”
Jesus is the point of the whole story of Scripture
Jesus is the point of everything we do…
2. We need to get rid of/repent of legalism
Grace is our motivation for change
Titus 2:11-13
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God andSavior Jesus Christ.
God is so committed to you, that you want to honor Him.
3 ways this posture towards grace, not legalism, shapes our church:
1. We think spiritual disciplines are a good thing.
2. We believe in the power and work of the Holy Spirit.
3. We preach, and disciple Christians with, the Gospel.
2 Corinthians 8:9-10
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 10 And in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it.
Ephesians 5:24-25
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Philippians 2:6-7
“…though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,”
