Made For More, pt. 3: Ministry

  1. What is Ministry?  “In Christianity, ministry is an activity carried out by Christians to express or spread their faith, the prototype being the Great Commission.”-Wikipedia
  2. Matthew 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
  3. Acts 6:1-6 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. 3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.
  4. Physical Ministry OR AND Spiritual Ministry
  5. Ministry is meeting a need or caring for someone in order to spread your faith.  It is meeting needs with a purpose.
  6. Who is responsible for Ministry?  If you are a follower of Christ than you should be involved in ministry.
  7. Why do we do ministry?
    1. Jesus said so in Matthew 28:18-20 see above passage and John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love  one another.”
    2. So that others will see it and glorify God
    3. Jesus did it. Jesus says in Matthew 20:28 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
