- A moment in the presence of God changes everything
- My prayer is not just that you’d just have a moment with God — but that you’d step into a lifestyle of pursuing Him daily.
“He said to me, ‘It is Solomon your son who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish his kingdom forever if he continues strong in keeping my commandments and my rules, as he is today.” 1 Chronicles 28:6-7
- David had the vision, but God gave Solomon the assignment.
- David prepared the way
“Moreover, in addition to all that I have provided for the holy house, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, and because of my devotion to the house of my God I give it to the house of my God” 1 Chronicles 29:3
- Sometimes it’s not what you do but what you are willing to give up that builds a legacy of pursuit after God.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
He began to build in the second month of the fourth year of his reign. 2 Chronicles 3:1-7
As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” 2 Chronicles 7:1-3
- Fire fell from heaven – God made this his dwelling place
Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. “And as for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my rules, then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father. But if you turn aside and forsake my commandments that I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will pluck you up from my land that I have given you, and this house that I have consecrated for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. And at this house, which was exalted, everyone passing by will be astonished and say, ‘Why has the Lord done this to this land and to this house?’ Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers…’ 2 Chronicles 7:12-22a
- A blessing AND a warning
And she said to the king, “The report was true… But I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told to me… Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and set you on the throne of Israel! 1 Kings 10:6-9
- She couldn’t believe what she had seen Click to add your own note
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind. Every one of them brought his present… year after year. 2 Chronicles 9:23–24
- They had to see for themselves
For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
Solomon went after Ashtoreth, Milcom, and built high places for Chemosh and Molech — these are pagan gods linked to child sacrifice.
And the Lord was angry with Solomon… Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant… I will surely tear the kingdom from you and give it to your servant.” 1 Kings 11:5-11
- What Legacy are you building? – A legacy of chasing moments, or a lifetime of a surrender and obedience
- God won’t bless what your heart won’t protect.
- God sent a greater temple – Jesus
