Pastor Mark England
Numbers 13:30-32 (CSB) Then Caleb quieted the people in the presence of Moses and said, “Let’s go up now and take possession of the land because we can certainly conquer it!” 31 But the men who had gone up with him responded, “We can’t attack the people because they are stronger than we are!” 32 So they gave a negative report to the Israelites about the land they had scouted: “The land we passed through to explore is one that devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw in it are men of great size.
A mentality
“A “” is someone who anticipates and exhibits a corresponding or behavior. They tend to lack and may give up easily, even before attempting a task or challenge.”
Proverbs 13:12 (NIV) Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
Too many Christians lack because they lack !
is the fuel that drives courageous action.
You cannot effectively make disciples without or evidence of your .
1 Peter 3:15 (CSB) but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.
The lost will never ask for the reason for your hope if they can’t it.
Numbers 14:1-4 (CSB) Then the whole community broke into loud cries, and the people wept that night. 2 All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron, and the whole community told them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land to die by the sword? Our wives and children will become plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 So they said to one another, “Let’s appoint a leader and go back to Egypt.”
When hope dies, we retreat into and places God has already us from.
Joshua 1:1-9 (CSB) After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’s assistant: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now you and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites. 3 I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads, just as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River—all the land of the Hittites—and west to the Mediterranean Sea. 5 No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or abandon you.
God’s promise to Joshua is “He will be with him as He was with Moses”.
This doesn’t mean Joshua will do what Moses did, but that God’s , power, and will be with him as it was with Moses.
6 “Be strong and courageous, for you will distribute the land I swore to their ancestors to give them as an inheritance.7 Above all, be strong and very courageous to observe carefully the whole instruction my servant Moses commanded you.
Strength and courage come from knowing you aren’t in your fight.
When you don’t know which direction to take, immerse yourself in .
Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go. 8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. 9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Courage is connected to God’s , and God’s .
A great place to find these two things is in !
The more “” you get in you, the more you’ll have in being the “!”
Where does the Kingdom need me to show courage the most?
up!
Proverbs 31:8-9 (CSB) Speak up for those who have no voice, for the justice of all who are dispossessed. 9 Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy.
There are people who need your ! So let your voice speak , speak , and speak over their lives!
up!
Hebrews 13:8 (CSB) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Jesus is always . He shows up every time! He’s counting on you to be and show courage to those who need the in you!
up!
Acts 7:54-56 (CSB) When they heard these things, they were enraged and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 He said, “Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”
The only time in Scripture where Jesus is “” at the right hand of God versus at His right hand is right here.
Jesus for you when you have the courage to up for !
Do you have the courage to up, up, and up for in this dark world?
