Summer In The Son
“Under The Son”
7/13/25
Pastor Mark England

Mark 4:35-41 (CSB) On that day, when evening had come, he told them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the sea.”36 So they left the crowd and took him along since he was in the boat. And other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 He was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher! Don’t you care that we’re going to die?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Silence! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 And they were terrified and asked one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!”

Everything under the sun is under the and must bow at His .
We remember His Name in , but don’t forget His Name in .

Jesus had been teaching all day, using parables and telling stories so everyone in the crowd could .
He taught His disciples very .

Mark 4:33-34 (CSB) He was speaking the word to them with many parables like these, as they were able to understand.34 He did not speak to them without a parable. Privately, however, he explained everything to his own disciples.

The “” Sermon
Mark 4:35 (CSB) “…Let’s cross over to the other side…”

There’s in that statement. Because when Jesus says get ready to go over to the other side people get excited and are ready to go!

The sermon Jesus gave to His disciples after He had been preaching all day was “Let’s what we just talked about.”

This was going to be an important sermon because little did the disciples know that “going to the other side” meant they were about to be hit with a .

These disciples didn’t just need the Word to be to follow…
They needed the Word to themselves up for the .

Many people come to church and get the Word and are about it, not realizing that you need the to keep close to tattoo it on your because you need it in for life’s storms.

You can be excited about a Word and for the storm that the Word was given to you for.

The struggle for so many Christians today in church is that you can be excited and still leave .

The reason it’s so hard for you to remember what the message was about is because you got excited, with for .

How many of us keep an umbrella in the car, just in case?

When the rain starts and you’re not ready, sets in.

The disciples were panicking because the storm made them forget to hold on to .

But when you’re prepared, you can face the storm with .
Preparation doesn’t the storm, but it keeps you from in it.

We must hold on to when you face life’s storms, because it is the umbrella that will keep you .

Too often we leave the “umbrella” in the .

The disciples forgot the and embedded in the Word Jesus gave them…
“Let us go over to the other side…”

Mark 4:37 (CSB) A great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped.

Luke 8:23 (CSB) and as they were sailing he fell asleep. Then a fierce windstorm came down on the lake; they were being swamped and were in danger.

Mark tells you, “They got in a boat and a hits them.”
Luke tells you, “There was a period of time that they were .”

The next time you see the disciples looking for Jesus is when they thought they were going to .

As they were and Jesus went to sleep, they didn’t care. But when they were needing , they were worried about their proximity.

Same as today, many Christians don’t care where Jesus is when things are . But if something goes , we use Jesus like a spare tire and only go to Him if .

Have you ever been in a storm where you needed Jesus, but He’s gone on you?
We cry out, “God where are You?”

Your boat is filling up, and nothing you are doing is working, and .

To make it worse… Jesus is .
That means He went to sleep on !

Mark 4:38 (CSB) He was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion.

When Jesus went to sleep , don’t you think the storm was coming when He said, “Let’s go over to the other side.”

When God goes to sleep on you and you’re not from Him and you’re in the middle of the storm, it’s because .

“Let us go over to the other side…”
You’ve heard Me preaching all day. You watched me perform miracles. Now I want to watch your ! Because without it’s impossible to please the Lord.

Following Jesus . Like the disciples, you will have to believe later what God says that “He will finish what He started.”

If you’re telling God, “I don’t want storms.” You are asking Him to not give you a because you want to remain .

“Let us go over to the other side…”
Instead, the panicked.
Instead, the panicked.
Instead, the looked like the .
Instead, there was no difference between the and the .

They were Jesus but didn’t have the faith the Jesus they were around.

Faith in the storm is when you yourself of what He says.

Nahum 1:7 (CSB) The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.

Psalm 46:1-3 (CSB) God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.

2 Chronicles 20:17 (CSB) You do not have to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. He is with you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Tomorrow, go out to face them, for the Lord is with you.’”

Isaiah 26:3 (CSB) You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you.

In every storm, you’ve got to it otherwise you will !
Psalm 1:2-3 (CSB) his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

For those grieving…
Psalm 34:18 (CSB) The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.

What should have the disciples done?
If Jesus said, “Let us go over to the other side…” and a hurricane came. And He went and found a … they should have and gone right to .

If they would have like Him, they would have gotten to the other side.
The same would have come, still , maybe a little … But they would have experienced the of the LORD. Because God what He He is going to do .

Notice the difference between the disciples and Jesus on the exact same boat.
The disciples were in in the storm.
Jesus was in the storm.

What shakes you, doesn’t shake God.
Hebrews 12:28 (CSB) since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful.

He will through the very thing you are of.
Why? Because He has .

The disciples run in and say, “Wake up!” Do You not care that we are about to ?

John 3:16 (CSB) For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Mark 4:39 (CSB) He got up…

Don’t You care we’re about to die?
.

When He was sleeping, it was chaos.
When He was sleeping, they had no hope.
When He was sleeping, they thought they were going to die.
But as soon as … Suddenly there was , , and !

He got up and said “Hush, be still!”

Why are you panicking in a storm, when we serve a God who can say “.”

After He makes the storm perfectly calm, He looks at His disciples and asks them “Why were you afraid? Do you have no faith?”
Why did you like that? You look just like the I left on the shore.

He was letting the disciples know .
You must do ! If you can’t handle , how will you handle the ?
You must be than that!
Because I’m calling you to … and if I your Master … What do you think the life looks like?

How did they fail the test?
Storm came, they called on Jesus, Jesus made it better.

This test was not about whether Jesus could make it or not.
This test was about whether they could be or not regardless if He makes it . Can you walk through the storm?

Do you believe that all authority is ?
