A Place of Prayer

(Mark 11:15-17 CSB) They came to Jerusalem, and he went into the temple and began to throw out those buying and selling. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves, 16 and would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple. 17 He was teaching them: “Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves!” 

Prayer us to God.

( 1 John 5:14-15) This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Prayer the atmosphere.

(Philippians 4:6-7 NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Prayer builds our in God.

(Psalm 34:4-8) I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. 5  Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. 6  This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles … 8  Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

5 Principles for Developing a Prayer Life 

1. Make prayer a . 

(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

(Acts 1:14)  They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

(Acts 2:42) They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

2. Have a of prayer 

(Mark 1:35) Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

3. Find a dedicated of prayer.

(Luke 11:1) One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray … 

(Matthew 6:6) But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

4.  Come with a of prayer.

(Matthew 6:9-13) Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10  Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11  Give us this day our daily bread. 12  And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13  And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

A Model of Prayer

1. Praise – Begin with gratitude and thankfulness.

2. Priority – Ask “your will be done,” asking for God’s will not yours.

3. Provision – Pray for your needs.

4. Pardon – Ask for forgiveness of your sins and for those who have sinned against you.

5. Power – Seek power to overcome temptation.

6. Praise – End as you began with gratitude and giving glory to God.

5. Focus on developing with God.

(John 14:4-5) Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.
