Wk3: A Place of Worship

(John 4:20–24) So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?” 21 Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

Like Abraham…

√  True worshipers God, even when that obedience costs them something they value.

(Genesis 22:5) He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

Like Hannah…

√  True worshipers give their and their to God.

(1 Samuel 1:27–28) I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. 28 Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.

Like Paul…

√  True worshipers keep their through seasons of hardship and suffering.

(2 Timothy 4:6–7) For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Psalm 95, The Venite—“Come…”

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; 7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Worship is the act of ascribing ultimate value to something in a way that  engages your whole person and transforms your entire life.(MULTILINE)

For worship to transform your life, three things are necessary…
