Week 08: Caught In The Act
(John 7:53–8:11 ) Then each went to his own home. 1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11“No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
1. In this moment Jesus is reflecting , and who were meant to be.
√ He doesn’t the sinful woman.
(John 3:17 NIV84) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
(John 8:15) You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.
√ He doesn’t the Word of God.
(Exodus 33:19) I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
√ He shows for the broken.
(Matthew 9:36) When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
2. All sin breaks the heart of God, and are without sin.
(Romans 3:23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(Malachi 2:16 NKJV) “For the Lord God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the Lord of hosts. Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.”
God hates sin because he loves us, and sin always hurts us.
3. Jesus is promising you that you can your life of sin and walk in true freedom!
(John 8:11) …“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
(James 1:25) But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
