Week 5: Choose Joy

(Nehemiah 8:10) “Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Choice#5: Choose .

Joy comes when…

1. You know God has a for your life.

(James 1:2) Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

(Hebrews 12:2) … looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

(Psalm 16:11) You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

2. You know that God is going to .

(Romans 8:28) And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

3. You understand you must joy.

(Philippians 4:4) Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Truth–One of the surest, quickest ways to experience joy in your life is to sow joy into other people and the situations around you.

(Psalm 126:5) Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.

How do I sow joy?

1. Be expressively .

(1 Thessalonians 5:18) In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

2. Be an .

(Hebrews 3:13) But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

(Hebrews 10:24–25) Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

3. Jump in and others.

(Mark 10:45) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

4. Be in every way.

(Proverbs 11:25) A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
