Warnings against the pursuit and trust in riches
(Proverbs 11:28) Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
(Proverbs 23:4-5) Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.5 Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
(Hebrews 13:5) Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
(Luke 12:15) Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

Because God is rich, I’m Rich!
(Ephesians 3:6, 8) 6 And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. 8 Though I (the Apostle Paul) am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.
Inherited Riches
(Galatians 4:6-7) You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance. (Message Bible)
If you don’t know that you have an inheritance or what you’ve inherited, you won’t have access to everything you need for life and godliness.
(2 Corinthians 8:9) For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
Some of our inherited riches from Ephesians 1-7:
- Inner strength with power through the Holy Spirit
- Faith
- Unsearchable love of Christ
- Fullness of God
- Redemption through His blood,
- Forgiveness of sins
- Knowledge of the mystery of His will
- The message of truth
- Sealing of the Holy Spirit
- Guarantee of our inheritance

God’s Will
“The real life that Jesus came to bring — the glorious riches of God — is found in unity with God’s will.” Donald Adams
(Romans 12:2) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.
Purpose of God’s riches, Christ in You
(Colossians 1:27) To them (the Lord’s people) God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
