Partnership: Better Together

October 6, 2024   /   Fellowship Bible Church

Big Idea: Neither the church nor the home should try to make disciples of the next generation alone.

The Role of the Church: Help disciples make disciples.

1. for the world who Jesus is.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:13-16

2. who Jesus is and what He has done.

“As for me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all people to myself.”
John 12:32

“For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:9-10

3. every disciple as mature in Christ.

“We proclaim him, warning and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
Colossians 1:28

The Role of the Family: Be disciples who disciple their children.

1. Be to disciple.

“Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart.”
Deuteronomy 6:5-6

“Manoah prayed to the Lord and said, “Please, Lord, let the man of God you sent come again to us and teach us what we should do for the boy who will be born.”
Judges 13:8

2. Practice discipleship .

“Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Deuteronomy 6:7

3. Make discipleship .

“Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.”
Deuteronomy 6:8-9
