Simplicity: Less is More

Four Actions of Accumulating More and Experiencing Less:

1. Failing to see the source of increase.

Then he told them a parable: A rich man’s land was very productive. He thought to himself, “What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops?”

2. Raising the standard of living to meet the supply.

“I will do this,” he said. “I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones and store all my grain and my goods there.”
Luke 12:18

3. Placing security and satisfaction in possessions.

Then I’ll say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”
Luke 12:19

4. Settling for a much smaller treasure.

But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared—whose will they be?” That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.
Luke 12:20-21

How Do We Apply This Text to Our Life?

• Use what you have in this life to be rich towards God.

Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.
Hebrews 13:5

• Whatever God calls a treasure, treasure that!

The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. There will be times of security for you—a storehouse of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure.
Isaiah 33:56-6

• Do not practice foolishness.

Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
Psalm 28:26

• Redirect natural covetousness towards God.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
