Day 1 – When Obedience Creates Opposition

Summary

Faithful obedience to Jesus will often create resistance. But opposition is not evidence that God has abandoned His people—it is often evidence that the gospel is advancing.

Background

As the apostles boldly preached and people came to faith, the religious leaders became jealous and hostile. The apostles were arrested, yet God miraculously freed them and told them to continue proclaiming the gospel.

The mission did not stop because opposition increased.

Opposition – Resistance against God’s truth and mission.
Obedience – Faithfully following God regardless of cost.
Perseverance – Remaining faithful through hardship.

Day 2 – God Opens Doors No One Can Shut

Summary

No prison, obstacle, or opposition can stop what God has determined to accomplish.

Background

An angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and commanded the apostles to continue preaching publicly in the temple courts.

God did not rescue them so they could hide—He rescued them so they could continue the mission.

Key Words

Deliverance – God rescuing His people according to His purposes.
Mission – God’s work of proclaiming salvation through Christ.
Faithfulness – Continuing in obedience despite difficulty.

1. God’s purposes will succeed exactly as He intends.
2. God’s power is greater than every earthly obstacle.
3. Freedom from fear fuels boldness in mission.

Day 3 – We Must Obey God Rather Than Men

Summary

The apostles refused to let fear of people silence their obedience to God.

Background

When questioned by the religious leaders, Peter boldly declared: “We must obey God rather than men.”

The apostles understood that allegiance to Jesus must come before public approval, safety, or reputation.

Key Words

Boldness – Courage to obey and speak truth despite fear.
Allegiance – Loyal submission to Christ as King.
Witness – Publicly pointing others to Jesus.

Theological Truths

1. Jesus deserves ultimate allegiance above every earthly authority.
2. Fear of people weakens spiritual courage.
3. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to stand faithfully for Christ.

Day 4 – Wisdom in the Middle of Conflict

Summary

God sometimes uses unexpected voices and circumstances to protect and preserve His people.

Background

As the council debated killing the apostles, Gamaliel urged caution. Though he was not defending Christianity personally, God used his counsel to restrain violence.

Even opposition and uncertainty remained under God’s sovereign control.

Key Words

Providence – God sovereignly guiding events and circumstances.
Wisdom – Seeing life rightly through God’s perspective.
Sovereignty – God’s complete authority over all things.

Theological Truths

1. God works through both extraordinary and ordinary means.
2. No human plan can overthrow God’s purposes.
3. Believers can trust God even when outcomes feel uncertain.

Day 5 – Joy That Cannot Be Taken Away

Summary

The apostles rejoiced—not because suffering was pleasant, but because they were counted worthy to suffer for Jesus.

Background

After being beaten and threatened, the apostles left rejoicing and continued preaching daily.

Their joy came from belonging to Christ, not from comfortable circumstances.

Joy – Deep confidence and satisfaction rooted in God.
Suffering – Enduring hardship because of faithfulness to Christ.
Worthiness – Identifying with Jesus and His mission.
