John 2:13-22

History Behind The Text

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”  John 2:19 NASB

Jesus’ answer has layers of meaning:

• The Jerusalem would fall.

The temple was the most important in Israel.

• Endured centuries
• 2^nd temple lacked
• In New Testament times – King
• Was a wonder of the ancient .
• Jesus said He would rebuild it in days.

As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!”   Mark 13:1 NASB

The House Of God

• God’s dwelt there.
• Sacrifices were there.
• Place of and
• A place of
• Temple was a sign of the in “stone”.

Jesus The Carpenter Knew The Temple Was Beyond .

And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down.” Mark 13:2 NASB

A New House

Christians believe the resurrection of Jesus symbolizes the replacement of the old .

A Place By The “Carpenter”

If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
