1Kings 5 God’s House – The Preperation

December 11, 2024   /   Feather Sound Church

1.      An project. (1)

·      There is no chapter break in the original text.  King Haran of Tyre is on the kings of the earth that came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom.

·      Tyre was located about 100 miles north on the Phoenician coast.

·      King Hiram loved King David.

David took up residence in the stronghold, which he named the city of David. He built it up all the way around from the supporting terraces inward. David became more and more powerful, and the Lord God of Armies was with him. King Hiram of Tyre sent envoys to David; he also sent cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David. Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. — 2 Samuel 5:9-12 (CSB)

2.      A project. (2-6)

·         King Solomon was operating as if God’s promise was true.

When your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up after you your descendant, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a rod of men and blows from mortals. But my faithful love will never leave him as it did when I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and kingdom will endure before me forever, and your throne will be established forever.’ ”  — 2 Samuel 7:12-16 (CSB)

·         There was a condition that had to be me before the house was to be built.

I will designate a place for my people Israel and plant them, so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not continue to oppress them as they have done ever since the day I ordered judges to be over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies.      2 Samuel 7:10-11 (CSB)

3.      A project.  (7-12)

·         A foreign king receives the news with great joy and uses the term “LORD”.

·         “Jehovah” – the self-existent or eternal.  Jewish national name of God.

·         A plan was put in place.

·         A plan that bought peace.  A reminder in this Christmas season about a greater peace that has come.

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. — Isaiah 9:6 (CSB)

Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors! When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” — Luke 2:13-15 (CSB)

·         Let the church join the angels in proclaiming this truth about this peace on earth that they may to say, “Let us go and see what has happened.”

4.      A project that results in .

·         Resulted in laborers.

Jesus continued going around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.” — Matthew 9:35-38 (CSB)

·            It was built on a firm foundation.

According to God’s grace that was given to me, I have laid a foundation as a skilled master builder, and another builds on it. But each one is to be careful how he builds on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, each one’s work will become obvious. For the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire; the fire will test the quality of each one’s work. If anyone’s work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will experience loss, but he himself will be saved — but only as through fire. — 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (CSB)

EMERALD CITY:

1.      God is still building His house today.

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So, then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s coworkers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and that is what you are. — 1 Corinthians 3:5-17 (CSB)
