Living Stones: Building a Counter-Cultural Community (1 Peter 2:4-10)

Big Idea: Believers in Christ are transformed into a spiritual temple built on Jesus, the cornerstone, with a new identity as a chosen, royal priesthood tasked with reflecting God’s character in a counter-cultural community.

V.4-5 God’s blueprint: to build a living, spiritual temple, not from bricks but from believers. This new identity changes everything about how we worship and relate to God.

V.6 You will never go wrong your life with Jesus.

1. and V.7a We have value because we are chosen and cherished in Jesus.

V.7b-8 Why did they stumble? They didn’t listen to what the word said.

1. and : By aligning our lives with Jesus, we are promised stability and honor, ensuring we won’t be shaken or shamed, no matter the trials we face.

V.9 Our new identity has implications:

1. with e: We have a divine communal mission, fueled by grateful love for the one who called us out of darkness and into his light.

V.10-12 If it is true that we now belong to a new community built on the chief cornerstone, we are to align ourselves with Jesus and his character and reflect that back into the world.
