July 20, 2025 / Feather Sound ChurchFinding Peace in an Anxious World- Proverbs 3:5-6
Big Idea: Trusting God’s wisdom over our own brings peace in an anxious world.
One in 5 struggle in any given year (1 in 3 youth).
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.
Worry or anxiety are check engine lights that a trust problem. They are control mechanisms when we don’t have the answers or don’t know how we should respond.
V.5 Diagnosis: Misplaced trust is anxiety’s fuel. Our problem begins with misplaced trust (leaning) in my own limited understanding.
The cure: Where you place your trust matters. Jer. 17:7 says a man who trusts the Lord is blessed and V.8-Fruitful. The problem with my heart V.9 says it is a deception factory.
Prov. 3:5 says with our whole heart. Relinquishing control is where victory begins. Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust (‘batach’) in you. FMA- rooted. That’s where sturdiness is. Steadfast means not wavering. All in.
Application: I must identify if my trust is in God or in self.
How do I trust God with my whole heart?
V.6a in your ways know him. Yada implies a deep, intimate, experiential knowledge in every area. Prolonged anxiety stems from living independently of God and in self-reliance. Trust is built as it is experienced and I see the fruitful blessings that come that give me increased confidence to trust him as I experience his goodness.
Applications:
Think of your ways and define any anxious thoughts. Look for the root and memorize a scripture that speaks God’s truth to that worry.
Decision-Making: Before any “doing”, pray, “Lord, what’s Your will here?”
Worry Check tip: When anxious, pause and name the issue (e.g., “I’m worried about my kids”), then pray, “God, I trust You with this area.” This brings it under His lordship.
V.6b Promise: Straight paths. Not trouble free but aligned with God’s plan and this brings peace.
Communion. Closing song.
