Seeing Christ in Psalm 1: The Perfect Example of the Blessed Life

Psalms 1 and 2 the entire Psalter. They stand as a magnificent to this collection of Hebrew religious poetry.

The core ideas presented in these psalms—such as the contrast between the righteous and the wicked, the importance of on God’s law, and the consequences of one’s choices, and the reign of the Lord’s —are further unpacked and explored in greater depth throughout the rest of the psalter.

In seeing Christ in these Psalms, we recognize that Jesus is the of the blessed man who perfectly delights in God’s law and the sovereign and anointed King against whom the nations plot in vain.

Psalm 1: Jesus is the fulfillment of the perfectly meditating on & living out God’s Word.
Psalm 2: Jesus is the , the King established by God, whose kingdom cannot be shaken by human rebellion.

Sermon Outline of Psalm 1:

1. Reach for the Life That God (vv. 1–3)

A. Know when to say “no” (v. 1)

(1) Say “no” in with the wicked (v. 1a)

(2) Say “no” in with sinners (v. 1b)

(3) Say “no” in fraternizing with (v. 1c)

B. Know when to say “yes” (vv. 2–3)
(1) Say “yes” to God’s (v. 2a)

(2) Say “yes” to God’s (v. 2b)

(3) Say “yes” to God’s (v. 3)

2. Run from the Life That God (vv. 4–6)

A. Run Away from the Life (v. 4)

B. Run Away from the Life (vv. 5-6)…

Conclusion

The Psalm begins with “blessed is the man.” If we are to read this Psalm with our we would have to say that the “man” of reference here is a particular man.
