Hope Floats

Jochebed’s story encourages mothers to have hope for their children.

Hebrews 11:23 By faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

  1. Be brave And Continue to Praise

    • Jachoved’s name means: Ya = God; Chabad = Glory

    • God will inhabit your praises on behalf of your children.

    • Every time you think of what your children are going through, offer praises to God.

      • Magnify the Christ, not the complication

      • Glorify the Lord, not the limitation

      • Speak the promise, not the problem.

        • Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children.

        • Acts 16:31-33 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

  2. When Fear Draws Near, Let Your Faith Appear

    • When Pharaoh outlawed the birth of male boys, set out an edict to eliminate them by throwing them into the Nile.

    • Hebrews 11:24…and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

    • REFUSE TO FEAR FOR YOUR CHILDREN, BELIEVE FOR YOUR CHILDREN

      • Ever heard the phrase, “I just love my kids to death”? We almost did with our son when he lost his pancreas function at 17.

      • Faith invites the power and promises of God and teaches your children to do the same.

  3. Plant Faith Seeds in Little Deeds

    • Jochobed had a small skill, she was a weaver.

    • Moses, in writing this story in the Torah, calls it an ark. Hebrew TEVAH, which was synonymous with salvation, He called Noah’s boat TEAVAH, as well as the place where the mercy seat and covenant were stored, the Ark of the Covenant. TEVAH

      • God does the saving, but we have to give him a vessel

      • You do the natural, he does the supernatural

  4. Let Go, But Let God Know
    (Pray diligently for your children.)

    • The size of the Nile vs a 3-month-old baby!

      • Crocodiles in the Nile vs a 3-month-old baby!

      • Trusting the Princess to receive Him and claim him as her own took great faith to surrender and let go!

    • Who gets to name or define what you have labored for and birthed?

      • Pharaoh’s daughter named him Moses or Moshe)

      • A Prophetic name, like all others in the OT, for what he later does in life. Deliver people through water!

      • Whom did God use to define and name Moses? Exodus 2:10 When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, who made him her son. She named him Moshe (Moses), explaining, “I drew him (meshitihu) out of the water.

        • This verse suggests that Pharaoh’s daughter names Moses—oddly enough, using a Hebrew etymology.

    • Even though Jachebed has no control over her son,

      • He is named in Hebrew, and the name given is prophetic for His entire life and calling by a daughter of Pharaoh.

    • This is the surrendered life. This is the submitted life.

    • Hope matures in surrender – whatever the outcome, I will trust God.

      • Anything that grows in you and you birth invites the desire to control.

      • And she is just going to place her whole future, which is her son, in a basket made of reeds and tar and float him towards another woman.

      • But if she holds on, grips tight, keeps him at home –  HE IS DEAD!

      • What are you killing by not letting go and letting GOD?

    5.  Walk in humility as a mother with what you have labored for the Lord.

    • Just ask Jocheved. Where does she end up next? To be a nursemaid for the princess’s adopted son.

    • She is told how to dress Moses

      • She is told when to put him to sleep, when to feed him.

      • Everything that a mother naturally decides for herself is now being ordered to her by someone above her.

      • And it’s her baby.

What’s your baby? 1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

    • Setbacks are set-ups in disguise with God.

    • Pullbacks are Promotions in disguise with God
