1.   Followers of Jesus should anticipate and .

“If the people of this world hate you, just remember that they hated me first…. So if people mistreat me, they will mistreat you.” – John 15:18 & 20 CEV

• Our most painful pushback will often be from .

“People will tell you to leave their synagogues and never come back. In fact, the time will come when they will think that killing you would be doing a service for God.” – John 16:2 ERV

2.   Our with Jesus and His  should be the only reason that the world hates us.

“If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as it loves its own people. But I have chosen you to be different from those in the world. So you don’t belong to the world, and that is why the world hates you.” – John 15:19 ERV

“And you will tell people about me too, because you have been with me….” – John 15:27 ERV

• Our goal should not be to defend ourselves or to put others down, but to introduce people to Jesus and His way of living.

“God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them!” – John 3:17 CEV

3.   When the world’s response to us is , our response must be .

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.” – Matt. 5:43-45 NLT

When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly. – 1 Cor. 4:12-13 NIV

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33 NIV
