A Church Worthy of Praise

1 Corinthians 11:17 (NLT)

17 But in the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together.

A church worthy of praise doesn’t .

1 Corinthians 11:17–18 (NLT)
Order at the Lord’s Supper

17 But in the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together. 18 First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it.

1 Corinthians 11:20–21 (NLT)

20 When you meet together, you are not really interested in the Lord’s Supper. 21 For some of you hurry to eat your own meal without sharing with others. As a result, some go hungry while others get drunk.

A church worthy of praise doesn’t confuse for .

1 Corinthians 11:22 (NLT)

22 What? Don’t you have your own homes for eating and drinking? Or do you really want to disgrace God’s church and shame the poor? What am I supposed to say? Do you want me to praise you? Well, I certainly will not praise you for this!

1 Corinthians 11:23–24 (NLT)

23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you.* Do this in remembrance of me.”

  • He was broken so you can be made whole

Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)

5 But he was pierced for our rebellion,

crushed for our sins.

He was beaten so we could be whole.

He was whipped so we could be healed.

    1 Corinthians 11:25 (NLT)

25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.”

His blood means we have been

    Ephesians 1:7–8 (NLT)

7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

    His blood means we have

    Hebrews 10:19–22 (NLT)

19 And so, dear brothers and sisters,* we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death,* Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

      1 Corinthians 11:25b-26 (NLT)

25 …“This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
