Week4: Build Different

1 Corinthians 3:10–11 (NLT)

10 Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.

We are being

  • and first things first, the foundation
  • Paul starts with this idea of a foundation
  • A strong foundation is critical for several reason

1. Structural Stability
2. Load Distribution
Galatians 6:2 (NIV): “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
3. Prevention of Ground Movement
Hebrews 12:28 (NIV): “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”
4. Waterproofing and Moisture Control
2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV): “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
5. Longevity of the Structure
6. Support for Future Modifications
7. Safety
Psalm 18:2 (NIV): “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Eph 2:20

Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

    We are

    1 Corinthians 3:12-15 (NLT)
    12
Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the w lol ork survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

    1. Be careful with what you build with.

    People are eternal
    Biblical Truth is eternal

    2. What you build will be tested.

    We are built

      1 Corinthians 3:16 (NLT)
16 Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

      Ephesians 2:20–21 (NLT)

20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.

      2 Corinthians 5:20–21 (NLT)

20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,* so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
