TO BE LIKE JESUS Pt.2

Mark 1:29-39

Mark 1

INTRODUCTION:

The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle said this: ”We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

Galatians 5:22-23

Would it be excellent? Would it be decent? Would it be average? Would it be poor? What would it be? None-existent?

Aristotle said – is what we repeatedly do.

We are to carry out a gospel-centered mission by living a gospel-centered life – so that everywhere we go and everything we do, and everything we say contributes to people hearing, believing, and receiving the gospel.

TEXT:

Mark 1:29-39 (NIV) 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her.31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.33 The whole town gathered at the door,34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.36 Simon and his companions went to look for him,37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

THREE CHARACTERISTICS OF GOSPEL CENTERED PEOPLE:

1.  THEY PEOPLE

Mark 10:45 (NIV)For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

We God by people.

v.31she began to wait on them.

Mark 1:32-34(NIV) Check it out.  32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.33 The whole town gathered at the door,34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

You and I are only to do what only you and I can do. You’re not called to do what does. You’re called to do what you can do.

2. THEY  ON GOD IN

Mark 1:35 (NIV)Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

v. 35Very early in the morning, while it was still dark…

Three reasons why Jesus had to pray:

·        To with God.

Prayer is meant to primarily give you to a relationship.

·        To on God.

Hebrews 5:7 (NIV) says, During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

You depend on , you get what man can do. You depend on , you get what God can do.

Everything in your life in comparison to who God is.

Corrie Ten Boom says, ”Prayer is your steering wheel or your spare tire.”

·                    To from God.

John 12:49 (NKJV) ForI have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

3. THEY  THEIR

Mark 1:36-37 (NIV) Simon [Peter] and his companions went to look for him,37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

Mark 10:45 (NIV)For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Mark 1:38 (NIV)Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

James 5:14-16 (NIV)14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Mark 1:38 (NIV)Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Is that a priority in your life?
