Message:

Matthew 5:13-16 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

The Word of God is Salt. The Holy Spirit is Salt. Salt is good for a multitude of reasons. The Word of God is light. The Holy Spirit reveals to us what is true. We need to walk in the light.

1. The Goodness of

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

It and .

Numbers 18:19 ESV

All the holy contributions that the people of Israel present to the Lord I give to you, and to your sons and daughters with you, as a perpetual due. It is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord for you and for your offspring with you.”

One thing most people know about salt is that it is used for preserving meats and that it is used to help purify things. It adds flavor to food, and it a great source of electrolytes. Salt removes and kills toxins found in the air and in blood. But what on earth does that have to do with this verse when it says that the Lord has made a covenant of salt?

If the Law was followed perfectly, it would them of all unrighteousness therefore them for eternity in Heaven.

But also Salt is known to last forever. Pure salt will not go bad. It does not spoil, it does not lose its salty flavor. So in another sense the covenant of salt was saying that the covenant God made for His people was for all and that it was .

Because Jesus lived out the Law perfectly, and paid our price, we can have the assurance that we will be preserved. We have assurance of heaven because of Jesus. The price He paid for us was more than words can express. How , the sacrifice of Christ for us.

Its

Salt has been and is still very valuable today. Every processed food, and most cooked meals you eat anywhere has salt in it.

Christians are supposed to be like that. What we have inside of us is of such great value that we should be sharing it everywhere we go. The word of God much like salt, seasons you. It gives you . It gives you . It brings you . It brings you . It brings you ! What is more valuable than that? Everybody is looking for that!

Christians are to be salt in the world around us. Do not forget the that you carry, as an ambassador for Jesus Christ.

It Adds

Where Jesus went, the changed. Women were treated with respect. The blind were given sight. The lame began to walk. The hypocrites were confronted. The truth was proclaimed, and God was given glory!

A World Without Salt

A world without salt, A world without Jesus, is three things.

. .

A world without salt is for destruction, but a world with salt is to see the Savior.

2. The Goodness of

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Light gives us direction

Psalm 119:105 ESV Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

You can the Word of God, and when we follow the word of God, He gives us

Psalm 37:23 ESV The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way;

Light helps us see clearly

1 John 1:7 ESV But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Psalm 119:130 ESV The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Scripture says that “without holiness, no one will see the Lord.” Walking with God gives us direction but it also helps us see clearly. Walking with God can help other people see clearly. Walking with God opens our eyes to the works of God and the schemes of the enemy. When you walk in the light, you can see the things that are tripping you up, your stumbling blocks as the bible calls them.

Walking in the light helps us see clearly so we can run the race that is set before us having thrown off all the chains that try to stop us from getting to our

Light is to be seen by others

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Light is meant to be . No one lights a candle and puts it under a bowl. No one turns on the light switch and then unscrews the lightbulb. Doing that defeats the very purpose of the light!

The light inside of you, the Light of Christ, is begging you to share it. The only thing that matters is your . Their response doesn’t matter, will you be obedient to share the light and let it be seen, so that people can glorify God, like you have?

A World without Light

Matthew 6:22-23 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

The world we live in claims to know the truth. They claim to have it all together. The world wants you to think that the key to success is this 5 step program to get yourself rich. Society is glamorizing influencers and creators as if they have this perfect lifestyle that you should follow. The world is placing fake beacons for you and everyone around you to follow but those beacons aren’t lights. They are darkness.

A world without light is cold, and unjust. It is unforgiving and brutal. There is no mercy to be seen, and there is nothing .

3. In The , not Of It

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Of The World

  • Trampled

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

  • Hidden

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

What good is the Christian that believes but never shares? What good is the Christian that believes but never gives? What good is the Christian that believes but never serves? The answer is they are no good. You can believe but unless you are born again, unless you are letting the Word of God change you and you are doing what God says to do, your faith is nothing.

In The World

  • Precious

Exodus 30:35 ESV And make an incense blended as by the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy.

Ezra 7:21-22 21 “And I, Artaxerxes the king, make a decree to all the treasurers in the province Beyond the River: Whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the Law of the God of heaven, requires of you, let it be done with all diligence, 22 up to 100 talents[c] of silver, 100 cors[d] of wheat, 100 baths[e] of wine, 100 baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.

Every burnt offering was sprinkled with Salt. The only acceptable incense to be burned in the temple of God was made with salt. Salt was used to describe the covenant God made with David and Abraham because Salt does not rot, and it does not waste away.

The Christian that is in the World adds value to it. They do not laze around but are active and helpful, doing the work of the ministry. They are giving to those in need, clothing those who don’t have, and are testifying of Christ. The Christian in the world needs to be the hardest worker. They should be doing everything to the glory of God! The people around you should be amazed at what you do because you believe in the Lord. You should be like salt in that if you are a part of something you are beneficial, because you are doing everything to the glory of God.

  • Revealing

John 3:19-21 ESV And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Matthew 4:16 ESV The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”

The lives within you, so let your light shine! Don’t hide it! Be bold with your faith! Those dwelling in darkness have seen a great light. Those dwelling in the shadow of death a light has dawned. That light is Jesus Christ! Tell the world there is hope!
