A Father’s Blessing | Father’s Day 2023 | Pastor Andrew Cromwell

Proverbs 10:22 ESV: The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

Blessing: the advantageous situation resulting from God’s favorable actions toward someone.

James 1:17 NKJV: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Genesis 1:28-30 ESV: 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

The Theme of the Father’s Blessing in Scripture

  • Abraham (Genesis 12:2-3 ESV)
Genesis 12:2-3 ESV: 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Galatians 3:29 ESV: And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.

  • Moses and Aaron (Numbers 6:22-27)
Numbers 6:22-27 ESV: 22 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, 24 The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. 27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”
  • David (1 Chronicles 17:27)
1 Chronicles 17:27 ESV: Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you, for it is you, O LORD, who have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”
  • Jesus (Matthew 3:16-17)
Matthew 3:16-17 ESV: 16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
  • You and I (Ephesians 1:3)
Ephesians 1:3 ESV: 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…

Our Heavenly Father’s Blessing

 1. I am completely .

Titus 3:7 CEV: Jesus treated us much better than we deserve.  He made us acceptable to God and gave us the hope of eternal life.

2. I am extremely .

Luke 12:24 NIV: Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

3. I am eternally .

Isaiah 54:10 MSG: For even if the mountains walk away and the hills fall to pieces, My love won’t walk away from you, my covenant commitment of peace won’t fall apart.” The God who has compassion on you says so.

4. I am totally .

Ephesians 1:4 LB: Long ago, even before He made the world, God chose us to be His very own through what Christ would do for us; He decided then to make us holy in His eyes, without a single fault – we who stand before Him covered with His love.

5. I am fully .

2 Corinthians 3:4 RSV: Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God.
