To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow. —Maya Angelou
Isaiah 2:2-3 ESV: It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.”
The Divine Pattern:
- We go up
- He shows up
Revelation 4:1 NIV: After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”
Revelation 3:20 NIV: Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
Going Up to Bless the Generations
Psalm 102:18-28 ESV: Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord: that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the Lord looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die, that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord, and in Jerusalem his praise, when peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the Lord. He has broken my strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days. “O my God,” I say, “take me not away in the midst of my days—you whose years endure throughout all generations!” Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end. The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you.
- Recognize the gift of your place (your generation).
Psalm 102:24 ESV: “O my God,” I say, “take me not away in the midst of my days—
Psalm 16:6-8 ESV: The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed,I have a beautiful inheritance.
2. Honor past generations.
Psalm 102:25 ESV: Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
- Honoring the past with grace.
Exodus 20:12 ESV: “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
- Breaking negative generational inheritance
3. Bless future generations!
Psalm 102:18 ESV: Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord
